In this book The Cage by Ruth Minsky Sender, a sixteen year old girl named Riva survived during the Holocaust which started in September 1939. She was taken away by her mother, and all she had left with her was her little brothers. She got two diseases one was blood poisoning from the camps, and one was she did not have enough calcium in her legs that was from the ghetto.Together they were trying to keep each other safe in the ghetto. But once the Nazis took them away to the concentration camps Riva is all by herself with a few friends. Everything was taken away from her so now Riva is on a horrifying and dangerous adventure at the concentration camps, the only thing keeping her alive instead of taking the easy way out is a quote her mother told her " as long as there's life, there's hope."and on May 5 that's when Riva got free from the concentration
